Since the decommissioning of the cooling pond in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, significant areas of drylands formed by the bottom sediments with different levels of radiation pollution has been formed. This led to the emergence of new floristic complexes with a gradual increase in the diversity of terrestrial fauna. The purpose of our work was to study hematological and cytogenetic parameters in murine rodents (Apodemus and Myodes genera) that inhabited the drained areas of the cooling pond.
Radioecological characterization of the experimental sites with different levels of radiation contamination was carried out, the content of incorporated 90Sr, 137Cs in animals was determined.
In blood system of animals from labile ecosystem of cooling pond, both pathologic features and activation of compensatory processes was revealed; an increased frequency of micronuclei in bone marrow cells was registered. Species features in the reaction of the hematopoietic system to chronic radiation exposure.
