A Comparison of the Recovery of the Areas Affected by the Kyshtym and Chernobyl Accidents

The recovery of the areas contaminated after the Kyshtym and Chernobyl radiation accidents is compared. The challenges in the recovery of the affected areas related to the differences in exposure pathways, farming practices, environmental factors, the policy and remediation planning approaches adopted for rehabilitation of those areas are addressed. Differences in the remediation of the affected areas: (i) criteria used for remediation planning; ii) determination of the areas designated for remediation, (iii)environmental factors affecting recovery such as features of the land use and soil type are identified and discussed. Information on rate, extent and duration of remediation in both regions is given. Issues related to waste generation; remediation and management in the abandoned areas are considered. Main outcomes of remediation applied in those areas are also presented. Status of the most contaminated areas is described including current issues in the recovery and use of these territories.
クイシトゥイム及びチェルノブイリ事故の被災地の復興の比較

クイシトゥイムとチェルノブイリで放射線事故後に汚染された地域の復興を比較する。被ばく経路、農作業、環境要因、こうした地域の復旧で採用された政策・修復計画アプローチの違いに関わる被災地復興の課題を取り上げる。被災地の修復での違い：(i)修復計画で採用された基準、(ii)修復を指定された地域の決定方法、(iii)土地利用や土壌型の特徴などの復興に影響する環境要因を特定して説明する。両地域での修復の速度、程度、期間に関する情報を示す。廃棄物生成に関する問題及び放棄された地域の修復と管理について検討する。こうした地域で行われた修復の主な成果も紹介する。最も汚染された地域の状態を、こうした地域の復興と活用での現在の問題を含めて説明する。
